Google Reader Feature Request – Large Scale Feed Trimming

By Ed Taekema in Collaboration on August 27th, 2008

I am an avid Google Reader user and currently am consuming around 400+ feeds. What I find I need to do every couple of months or so, is to review the feeds I have and trim out those that are no longer active or those that I am no longer interested in. What I need in Google Reader is a way to grab all the feeds that have a label and unsubscribe them all. This would allow me to label blogs that I will likely need to drop and them do it quickly. Right now, I have to visit each feed and unsubscribe them one at a time.

  1. You can, simply give those feeds tags, go to manage subscriptions, filter by tag, and unsubscribe.

  2. Hey … somehow I missed that … going to give it a try now.

  3. Just a quick update, the above suggestion worked brilliantly. I created a label called aaaDeleteMe (so that it appeared at the top of label list) and then labeled feeds as I went that were inactive or dead. From the Google Reader options, I then viewed subscriptions and selected the filter by label option. Once the list was filtered to the ones I needed to unsubscribe, it was as easy as choosing the “select all” option and “unsubscribe”. I’m back to being a happy Google Reader reader …
