If you just can’t wait to upgrade to the latest ubuntu (8.10), here is a handy guide from tombuntu.  If you can wait a bit, there should be a version of ubuntu-eee available based on 8.10 … that is my plan … patience patience …

  1. I just uninstalled 8.10 and went back to 8.04 on my destop. 8.10 caused lockups, it would not shut down properly, and several of the apps were buggy due to missing dependencies. For example, I use Geany as a Perl IDE, have always enjoyed it’s perlcc option to ‘compile’ and test. Unfortunately, 8.10 moved to Perl 5.10, and perlcc is no longer present. That should have been detected, instead Geany fails with ugly errors. I’m sure 8.10 will be fine eventually, but at the moment, it’s not soup yet.

Hmmm … I am still at 8.04.1 … waiting for the eee-ubuntu package that will be out in january. I might have to wait a bit longer. Thanks for the tip.
