Plustek OpticSlim M12 sheetfed scanner on Ubuntu
By Ed Taekema in Asus eee on April 3rd, 2009
Just a quick post to remind me how to setup the Plustek OpticSlim M12 sheetfed scanner on Ubuntu. This is actually the scanner used by NeatReceipts, which i have purchased. Their software, though, is less useful to me and i have been looking for a way to use their very travel friendly sheet fed scanner independent of the software. Their scanner is a repackaged Plustek OpticSlim M12 sheetfed scanner and xsane will support it via the plustek driver. To get it to work, you must also copy the firmware file into this path: /usr/share/sane/gt68xx/cism216.fw. You can get the firmware file here: http://gkall.hobby.nl/gt6816-07b3-0412.html. I verified the plustek worked with both xsane and gscan2pdf.

Hi,
I am runnning Ubuntu 9.04 and I just cannot get the M12 to work. I copied cism216.fw to gt68xx but still no success. Neiter sane nor gscan2pdf work. The scanner does not react at all. Running scanimage -d gt68xx:libusb:004:012 returns after a few minutes ‘device busy’. Any idea?
Thanks,
HC

Hmmm … must have to do with the changes in 9.04. Perhaps check to see if there is updated firmware anywhere for the new version of ubuntu.

I recently installed Ubuntu Karmic Koala and I have just copied the driver in the given path and voila! the scanner works! Check with synaptic for uninstalled packages, maybe that’s where the problem lies.

sudo chmod a+r /usr/share/sane/gt68xx/cism216.fw
